Issues

1.      AI datacenters are a drain on resources (water and power) and can pose health risks to surrounding populations.  Large data centers capable of supporting Artificial Intelligence development and use can consume upward of 100 megawatts of power — enough to support 80,000 U.S. households.  Data centers also produce a lot of heat, requiring either chilled air or water for cooling. A 100-megawatt data center consumes as much water as 2,600 U.S. households.

·         A moratorium on new Data Centers until common sense legislation can be enacted

·         Modify HB1847, which requires data centers to pay for their own electrical infrastructure, to include water utilities and remove the exclusion for telecommunications companies

2.      Ensure healthcare access to all Tennesseans.

·         Medical decisions should be between a patient, their guardian if necessary, and their doctor

·         Ensure the 190 million federal dollars that Tennessee receives for Tenncare is spent responsibly

·         Increase beds (from 232) at Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute, the only public acute mental health hospital in middle Tennessee (18 counties)

·         Opt back in to the 70 million dollars provided for Federal Summer EBT

3.      Minimum Wage increase

·         Tennessee does not have a minimum wage and follows Federal Guidelines.  Federal minimum wage has not increased since 2009.  A State minimum wage, tied to inflation, should be implemented and the tipped minimum wage should be abolished

4.      Grocery Tax

·         State Grocery Tax of 4% hurts the most vulnerable among us and should be removed

5.      Education

·         Prioritize the expansion of Project AWARE mental health services to all counties (currently only 10 counties receive grants)

·         Elimination of School Vouchers.  While Maury County does have 2 eligible private schools, over half (51) of Tennessee counties do not even have a private school within their borders

·         Ensure continued funding for School-Based Behavioral Health Liaisons
